System configuration utility
Even when your computer's sat there doing nothing it could be running at least 50 programs! These are programs that a munching away at your poor old CPU and not to mention having a right good go at your memory as well. The reason for this is because over time the more stuff you install the more crap that builds up and even if you don't even use that program, there's a damn good chance that it's running in the background.
To see what I mean hit CTRL +ALT + DELETE then press the processes tab. It will show you how many processes that are running in the background.
1. To solve this little dilemma just go the Start or Run for XP owners, and type MSCONFIG.
2. The System configuration will appear and from in there go to the STARTUP tab.
3. Once you've selected the STARTUP tab you'll be presented all the programs that are running in the background of your PC. What I would recommend is turning everything off apart from your anti virus.
If you do see anything what you do want on for example MSN massager by all means keep it on but the more you have running in the background the more it'll sap your PC's ,zxcsky09543, performance and will also affect you're your Boot times as well.

Now still hanging around in the System Configuration Utility, go to the second tab called SERVICES and go to and untick the HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES. Once you've unticked the box you should be just left with all the non Microsoft services.
once again I would recommend to turn them all off but the anti viruses services. Once you've decided what and what not gets the chop click apply and you're done.

Depending on which OS (operating system) your using, this could make or brake it. If your using Windows Vista? I would recommend turning some the visual effects of especially on the lower end systems. However if your using XP, the performance will be less impressive but I believe every ounce of performance is crucial. Besides, you won't even notice half of these switched of anyway.
Now as much as I would love to tell you how to get to these options, the ways to get there are very different when compared to Vista and XP. So a way around this (and probably a cop out as well) I'll just tell the vista owners to type in PERFORMANCE into the search bar, select PERFORMANCE INFORMATION AND TOOLS and click ADJUST VISUAL EFFECTS and you'll find your way there.

But don't worry, because I'm going to show you to download a much better one that Vista's own shoddy attempt. Auslogics Disk defragger is its name and I think you'll find it quick and easy to use and it seems to do quite a good job as well.

Shell scripts make our lives as Linux users far easier as they automate many complex things that we need to do every day. Combine these with cron and you have yourself a winner. Using a combination of the two can result in some very powerful scripts such as one to automatically check for updates then do update automatically at 2 am, or one to back up the file system weekly on a Sunday.
Bash scripts are coded in a special language known as bash (Bourne Again Shell) which is the most common shell to create scripts in. People often make the mistake of thinking that a bash script and a shell script are the same thing. Actually, there are very few shell commands available, but far more bash commands, and no single user knows them all!
In this article I will assume that you meant bash scripts as they are the most common scripts in Linux land. The format of a bash script is often to open it in your favorite editor then save it as a .sh file.
Hello World
To show you what a bash script does I will use the very simple "Hello World" example, which will echo "Hello World!" into the terminal. So without further ado open your favorite text editor and type in the following:
Now open up a new terminal window, go to your scripts directory using cd ~/scripts and finally type in: ./hello.sh if it displays "Hello World!" you have just run your first bash script!

Media Managment
The non-linear video editing model was developed out of the older linear editing system, where physical forms were used and cut together manually. When the digital video editing software was created it transformed this process into something that was based on media management, where all the digital video files were stored digitally and it was up to you to position and alter representations of them inside of the editing software. This is much more about the positioning and organization of your project rather than the physical alteration of film stock or video tapes, and because of this the order of your projects became key. Apple's Final Cut Pro non-linear video editing software is quickly becoming an industry standard because of its power and usability, but the need for organization in your project is just as important as ever. Here is a guide for organizing your Final Cut Pro media so that your project will not have errors and you will be able to access all the appropriate files when working.
Capture Scratch
When you caputre footage, which is where you either transfer your footage into your project from a digital storage medium or capture it from a physical recording platform like film stock or DV tapes, it is saved in a folder called the Capture Scratch. When your Final Cut Pro project brings up the media that has been captured it is referencing the source media in the Capture Scratch. It is important to actually set the Capture Scratch location everytime you are working on a new project or the same project in a new location, otherwise it could save the captured footage onto an odd location or a storage drive that you will not be using for your project. This will disconnect the media and you may even lose it zxcsky9632 entirely, making this one of the primary focal points for organizing your Final Cut Pro media.
To do this in Final Cut Pro you will want to go to the System Settings option and then go to the tab for Scratch Discs. Windows Defender is an anti-spyware software tool by Microsoft which protects your PC from spyware and other malicious elements which attempt to intrude into your PC.
It is a very nice tool which is offered free by Microsoft with Windows Vista and Windows 7. It offers advanced features like auto start, custom configuration, Internet Explorer integration etc. You can access it on your Windows PC by going to the Control Panel and clicking on the Windows Defender Icon. If you are using Windows XP, you can download Windows Defender for Free.

While most all operating systems do have built-in tools that can help perform these tasks, they’re generally fairly clunky and you end up having to check and recheck various options half a dozen times. Big and No Remote Support
For a while, along with PC users, people at the sharp end of home theaters were using DVI cables. When high definition video players and TVs began to gain popularity, the DVI connector was a proven solution for transmitting digital video signals (not the DV spec; I mean video signals which are digital, as opposed to video signals which are analog) in PCs. It was incorporated into high-end video equipment with some success, but there were problems.
While computer users are accustomed to dealing with connectors that have pins and screws, a DVI connector is large and unwieldy by home theater standards. It also has no provision to carry control commands (play, pause, volume, etc) from one device to another. This continues the tradition of having to use multiple remote controls, or ,cheap laptop batteries, programming codes into universal remote controls and switching functions, to control various home theater devices.
How Many Cables?
Another problem is the number of cables required. A computer’s video and audio signals usually come from separate sources, and go to separate peripherals. One connection is (or several are) made between graphics card and monitor, another (or several others) between sound card and speakers. Similarly, a home theater receiver sends audio signals to an amplifier, and video signals to a screen. Again, one cable (or a set of cables) goes to one device and another cable (or set of cables) goes to the other.
A DVD player, though, is a single source for both audio and video, and connects to a single device, the receiver. The number of cables needed to connect one device to another (ignoring wireless connections) is, ,dell laptop batteries, ideally: one. Connecting a mouse or keyboard to a PC doesn’t require hooking up several cables, after all. Connecting a DVD player with DVI, however, involves not only the DVI cable, but a separate cable (or, again, set of cables) to carry audio.
HDMI Much Easier to Use
HDMI devices, like DVI devices, can, but don’t have to, support HDCP. Unlike DVI devices, HDMI devices almost universally include HDCP. But it doesn’t hurt to make sure.
HDMI connectors are smaller than DVI ones, and don’t use screws. They are backwards compatible with DVI connectors, requiring only a passive (meaning just wires, no processing) adapter to maintain all the functionality of a DVI connection.
Also, they can carry high quality digital audio at the same time as video. Thus, they can replace co-axial or optical digital audio connectors. This means you can battery988678 connect a high-end DVD player to a receiver using a single cable, without loosing any audio or video quality - in theory.
In practice: if the Digital Analog Converter (DAC) in the source device is nicer than the DAC in the receiver; it is preferable to do the conversion within the player and send the analog signal to the receiver. That’s not really the HDMI cable’s fault, though.
In a system where the DAC in the receiver is better than the DAC in the player: HDMI delivers on the promise of using a single cable to deliver uncompromised audio and video signals, even to the most demanding devices. Some PC equipment is beginning to take advantage of this ability. We will deal with this in a coming article on PC HDMI Audio.
Finally, HDMI cables are also superior to DVI because they can carry control signals to connected devices. It’s still not perfect, but it helps. This means less frequent switching of remote controls, or fewer steps with a universal remote.
Upgrading to HDMI
Like upgrading to DVI (described in the previous article) upgrading to HDMI is made easier with backwards compatibility. Most computer monitors and graphics cards that have an HDMI port also have a DVI port. But even if they didn’t, you could use HDMI and DVI equipment together, with the full functionality of a DVI connection, by simply using a DVI/HDMI cable or adapter.

I for one welcome a return to some lean times. For a while there it was too easy for companies like Best Buy or Apple to get consumers to buy their products. I want them to have to work for my dollars, at least a bit. And we would all benefit from a little flexibility on the part of Apple. On the one hand, I respect that a ,cheap laptop batteries, company has set a price for their products that accurately reflect the costs of production, but Apple also has behaviors that remind me of monopolistic practices. So it's hard to say if they're just an honest technology maker or if they're leveraging their must-have products off the back of the Apple fanboy set.
Anyway on to the hotness:
The iPad: This will be the first Christmas with iPad availability. I'm a bit ambivalent about the iPad, but I can see it being a great fit for a lot of people. I'm not convinced that tablets do anything more than a netbook and with the steep premium for the Apple logo, I remain unconvinced. Which is to say that I won't be hoping Santa brings me my very own iPad, but I can see why there are plenty of people who will want them. If you're not a laptop owner, but you use the hell out of your smartphone, then maybe an iPad is a natural extension for you. My biggest hesitation with respect to the tablet is I'm not sure if it replaces anything, or just makes my bag heavier.
The iPhone4: I must admit that I just bought a new iPhone4, my first iPhone! I was really on the fence about jumping from the VZW ship and signing onto team iPhone, but what tipped the balance for me was the Verizon iPhone. The extent to which there is a Verizon iPhone is that at some point in 2011, Verizon might get an iPhone, maybe. Moreover it will not be an iPhone5, it will essentially be the CDMA iPhone1. Apple is in the process of fundamentally redesigning the iPhone to be compatible with Verizon's older CDMA standard network. Remember all the issues that Apple and ATT ,dell laptop batteries, have had; do you think it will be different with Verizon? I always regret being an early adopter. You're inevitably better off waiting for V2.0, than rushing into what amounts to an extended Beta testing phase. Now I won't be alone in thinking this way and like the iPad, this is the first Xmas for the iPhone4. Also it looks sooo good. They really stepped it up with the aesthetics for the iPhone4 and the Retina Screen is so very crisp. (Wipes drool from chin) Moving on.
Digital Book Readers: I'm a big book reader, I think I've read more than 100 books in 2010, but I'm an analog book guy. I love turning pages, seeing my progress through a book as I read it. So I am not an e-reader candidate. But they're getting much better and much more popular. For the same reason that I like getting a 2nd or 3rd generation anything, I think now is the time to think about buying the Amazon Kindle or Sony's offering.
The Kindle by Amazon: This is turning into a very nice reading product. It's lightweight (only 8.5 ounces in the latest version), it has impressive battery life (up to 1 month if you're just reading books with the wi-fi off) and the screen interface is easy on the eyes. It's also hitting a very comfortable price point with 2 versions available under $200. The basic wi-fi only model at $139.00 and the 3G enabled device for $189.00. The Kindle DX has the big screen at 9.7" and the big price tag at $379.00.
One of my biggest hesitations with a digital book reader is that it is a one trick pony. I like my tech to be a swiss army knife. I'm hesitant to purchase something that can only ,hp laptop batteries, do one thing, unless it can do it really well. I think that the Kindle might do books well enough to justify the limited uses for the device. The Kindle can also deal better with PDFs, so you could use it for work or school.
A Note: I believe the best gifts are evergreen. They hold up to the test of time and they remain useful for more than just the next 6 months. So this is one of my main criteria for selecting items for this list. However, not everything on this list is evergreen and not all the gifts this holiday season should have to last for years to come. There should be one or two that are both good and brief.
Call of Duty Black Ops: Available for the PS3, Xbox360, Wii, and Windows, this is going to be one of the hot games for this season. The gameplay looks outstanding and is reviewing really well. Also I am a bit of a sucker for really clever advertising and the "There's a Soldier in All of US" ads are truly excellent. It really positions a game that might be viewed as a "boys game" to a wider audience and helps to expand the demographic appeal.
Blu-ray player with movie streaming: Again, I like to wait for a few iterations of new tech before I adopt it and I think Blu-ray is finally there. I'm not about to go out and replace all my DVDs with Blu-ray, but I am willing to pay the extra few dollars when I buy movies from now on. I recently got Netflix streaming hooked up through my television and it is excellent. Having Netflix is much smoother than hooking up a computer through the TV. Though the selection leaves a lot to be desired, it's great to be mkjhgfoers able to watch high quality movies on demand. Vudu is another streaming service that looks to have a better selection but at a steeper price. If you're willing to upgrade to Blu-ray you might as well kick in the extra $30 or so for a streaming service.
Netbooks: I'd love to recommend that people go and buy the new Macbook Air, but I can't do it. I'm sure it's a great computer that works well and is super light, and it's in the second generation, which meets my "wait for it" rule. But at 2-3 times the price of a comparable netbook, it's too steep of a premium for me.
I've tried to keep my list mostly gender neutral, although I realize it has a slight bias towards the masculine. However I will make a few recommendations for the women in your lives: Shoes and Handbags. That about exhausts that good advice I have on what to buy. But I have important cautions about what not to buy. DO NOT buy the appliance for Christmas. Even if you and your significant other have been talking about getting a chest freezer for a while now. Don't buy it for Christmas. Nothing says, "Honey, I think you should spend more time cooking for me" quite like an appliance. Trust me on this; make the front-loading washer/dryer a Thanksgiving gift if you want, keep the trips to home depot out of the Christmas holiday.

As a devoted follower of the gritty underbelly of internet deal seeking, I am here to offer you tips and tricks, hints and insights for the 2010 holiday shopping season. With the down economy I'm sure you'll hear people in CNBC and GMA talking about how the holiday shopping season will be worse than expected, and from the point of view of the stores, this will likely be true. There are plenty of unemployed folks out there and their ability to go out and buy new $700 iPads is definitely going to be limited.
But I also ran across and interesting statistic at a speaking event in early November. The rate of unemployment is between 4 and 5%, if you have a college degree. Now I realize there are plenty of people out there who are hurting, but occasionally the grim and dire focus of the news can obscure some of the bright points in the world. While the retailers might suffer as a result of this, a few lean years can be really good for a company, it can force them to consolidate their gains and refocus on their core products and demographics. This is really good for us as consumers. It means that retailers will be more willing to make deals and offers some serious enticements to get us into their store and keep us as customers.

A court date has been set, the coffee pot is full, adrenaline is kicking in, and you're about to put together a solid case to wow the client. How confident are you that your presentation is going to wow judge and jury as well?
Presenting your case in court is the culmination of all the hard work put forth in its preparation. You've worked hard for your client, investigating the case, performing legal research, creating piles of briefs and memoranda, lining up expert witnesses, scheduling and calendaring, accounting for all billable hours, securing your evidence, creating exhibits, pouring over discovery, and making sure every I was dotted, every T was crossed. In all, you want your case presentation to be a work of art, and that's why we're here. We want to give you the framework to help you shine once you get to court.
We'll tell you about our free Trial Notebook ebook in just a bit, but for this short intro, we'll discuss the qualities your notebook should have that will help set you up for success when your case goes to T.R.I.A.L.:

The heart of your system should be a hardcopy three-ring binder. Though most offices are trying to "go green" and conserve paper, there is a time and a place for a paper-based organizer. Trial is that time and ,dell laptop batteries, place. Binders don't crash like computers can.
Most of us were raised on paper-based books and handwritten notes, and we're still faster at navigating a tabbed notebook than a computer file.
